UI Designer

Cambridge, UK

Akendi are looking for a junior to mid-level person who can bring their interaction and visual design skills to compliment Akendi’s current offering. With you on board we will be able to better serve our expanding client base.

You will work with the team on a variety of design tasks for client-facing projects. This will include concept development, storyboards, wireframes, prototypes at low and high fidelity, design reviews, presentations and developer handovers.

You will identify areas for improvement on Akendi’s own websites, researching and designing solutions before reviewing with the team and producing assets to aid implementation.

You will assist with Akendi’s marketing efforts, working with the marketing team to create images, gifs and videos for social media posts, blogs and other marketing activities within given timeframes.

Akendi is an agency entirely focused on user experience research, design and training. Ideally you are someone who is keen to learn new skills in UXD, including user research and conducting some of our training courses.

You will be supported in your work by the Senior Experience Architect, who will manage you and help you develop your skills as you gain more experience, as well as the Visual Design Director in Canada.

You will work with your manager to identify areas of professional development to explore. This might include aspects of user-centred design and research, other aspects of the business such as marketing or project management, or specific areas of UI specialism that you think would be of benefit to yourself and to the agency.

Although we currently work remotely due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the job is otherwise largely based in Cambridge and will (once the current situation abates) require frequent visits to the premises of our clients who are predominantly based in Cambridge and London.

Akendi offer a competitive salary plus additional benefits such as a pension, private healthcare and flexible working.

Basic Requirements

  • You must be eligible to work in the UK.
  • You must be fluent in English. Bonus points if you can speak Dutch!
  • You must be able to regularly spend time each week at our office in Cambridge at some point in the future (see above).
  • You must be able to demonstrate your competence in visual and interaction design and the process of arriving at final designs by showing us examples of your work.
  • You must have a demonstrable eagerness to learn new skills.
  • This job does not currently require any UK government security clearances, but this may become a requirement if client projects dictate.
  • This position is not available as a part time or job share role.

Akendi works to foster an inclusive, diverse and equitable working environment, through our internal culture, policies, and our approach to project work. We believe that we are stronger when our team is composed of people with different perspectives, approaches, life experiences and identities.
